On Thursday a team of four Year 5 pupils took part in the annual Haileybury Science Challenge. The theme for the challenge was Energy. In the Biology challenge pupils calculated the energy in three samples of food by burning them and using the heat to raise the temperature of water. In the Chemistry section the team had to discover which metals would make the best battery by combining them with copper sulphate solution and measuring the temperature rise. In the final section, Physics, they had to work out which material would be best for insulating a house and combine them to keep the heat in a test tube of hot water. Whilst they were awaiting the results there was a spectacular Chemistry show. When the results were announced Kingshott won the Chemistry section and received prizes and certificates, which were re-presented in assembly on Friday. Well done to Edward Fish, Grace Bennett, Rebecca Scott and Jonathan Weimann.
