Enrichment week

The end of term suddenly became even busier as everyone was involved in enrichment activities.

On Monday, Year 8 had a wonderfully varied day in Stratford upon Avon – they started off at Mary Arden’s farm where they learnt a lot about life in Tudor times, and toured the house where Shakespeare was born.  Supper was enjoyed in Pizza Express, before watching a wonderful performance of Midsummer Night’s Dream.
It’s not every day that you can say that you’ve been ‘let in on a secret or two,’ but that’s just what happened to our Year 8 pupils on Wednesday, when they were lucky enough to visit the Military Intelligence Museum, Chicksands. It was an informative and interactive visit, during which they were given a tantalising insight into problem solving and decision making military style.

On Thursday, Year 4 visited Dell Farm to learn about the Anglo Saxons and Vikings. They looked at some replica weapons and helmets from both periods, and used runes to solve a riddle and find some treasure! Next, we really enjoyed going to the Dunstable Downs to re-enact a Viking battle with our own shields!

Year 5 had a fantastic day at the farm on the Bowes Lyon Estate, looking at different crops and cattle breeds, followed by a tractor ride and then woodland den building, fire lighting and toasting Marsh mallows. The best part of the day was undoubtedly being given the responsibility to each light their own small fir with a magnesium flint.

As part of their enrichment activities, Year 6 visited St Albans Cathedral, where they tried their hand at brass rubbing, and went back in time to become monks at the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries.

Year 7 had a great day in Cambridge on Thursday. They did a really interesting treasure hunt around the city in the morning, discovering fascinating facts about the city, followed by a picnic lunch in a park. After this they enjoyed a relaxing punt down the River Cam, being regaled with stories of Cambridge.

Pre-Prep joined in the fun with lots of 'Pirate' based activities too.
