Art and Design

Year 7 Self Portrait by Sophie

Aims of the Subject

Art is taught to provide all children with the opportunity to express themselves visually in an enjoyable manner, to develop their creative and technical skills so that ideas can be realised and artefacts produced.  It is important to stimulate capacity for imaginative and original thought and experimentation which has a positive impact on other areas of the curriculum.Year 3 Nikita Inspired by Joan Miro

Assessment

Artwork is assessed through the children’s ability to articulate and communicate their ideas, opinions and feelings about their own work and that of others.

Teaching Techniques

Pupils are taught using a variety of different techniques through creative projects often linked to artists both historical and contemporary.  Cross-curricular links are made wherever possible across most subject areas.

Use of ICT

ICT is used in different ways - for teaching and learning with the Smart Board and for internet access to view works of art and artefacts, for pupils' research on artists and artistic movements, and within projects such as using the tile making software in Publisher to tessellate scanned images.
