Welcome to KINGSHOTT Preparatory School
There is an African proverb “it takes a village to raise a child”. Central to this is a belief in the collective responsibility we all share in looking after children.
At Kingshott we realise that modern expectations place schools in a pivotal role. This is a responsibility I, as Headmaster, take very seriously.
It is for this reason that Kingshott believes in an education that not only provides an intellectual environment which stimulates curiosity and promotes achievement, but also one that provides opportunities to develop and nurture each individual child.
Academic work is central to any school experience. However, accumulating knowledge in the hope that it makes one clever is a futile exercise. Teaching children how to access knowledge, to understand their learning and to apply their intelligences seem far more important skills that transcend any one stage of their lives.
Equally important are opportunities to sample a varied, diverse and interesting curriculum. Dale Carnegie once said, “You never achieve success unless you like what you are doing”. School should be fun and so the enjoyment of the curriculum is evident on the faces of Kingshott children, who are clearly engaging their educational experience.
But that is not the half of it. At Kingshott we believe that, in growing up, children need nurturing in a secure environment which provides clear boundaries. In a world that is guilty at times of providing a moral vacuum, children crave direction, guidance, praise, correction and above all some hand holding.
Kingshott is after all a prep school in which one of our responsibilities is to prepare children for what lies ahead. That is what we do – we raise children in the belief that a sound foundation gives them the confidence to be independent.
Iain Gilmour
