COVID-19 Information for parents and visitors

From the early stages of the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, the School has been closely and pro-actively following the guidance and advice from the Government and a number of Independent Schools advisory groups.

We will continue to update all members of the Kingshott School community (parents, pupils and staff) as frequently as necessary.  This website page serves to provide our community and visitors with easy access to our latest protocols.

Prospective Parents

Choosing a school can be a very difficult and overwhelming process. This has been made so much more challenging given the current COVID-19 situation. If you are considering Kingshott for your son or daughter, we would like to let you know that we are still here to support you in your decision.

Our Admissions Team is available by phone and email for information and advice and it may also be possible for us to arrange a call back from our teaching staff to answer any additional questions you may have. We are currently working on a very "homemade" virtual tour of the school so you can get an idea of what Kingshott is like. As soon as we are able to we will also arrange a tour or invite you to an Open Morning.

Please do get in touch via admissions@kingshottschool.com

September New Joiners

We face unprecedented times and at this stage are unable to confirm when we will reopen. It is likely that most, if not all of our new joiner activities will have to be postponed, if not cancelled and we realise that this will make joining a new school in September all the more challenging for the children. We will update this page as we know more and we will also be in touch by email to advise you of all arrangements as they become clear. In the meantime if you have any questions or if there is anything we can help you with, do please get in touch via admissions@kingshottschool.com

Continued Learning - Guidance for Parents

Kingshott School is now closed to all but the children of Keyworkers due to the Government’s management of the Coronavirus situation. During this time, work has already been sent home for all children to cover the remainder of the Spring Term and for the Prep School children, the teaching staff will provide education online from the 22nd of April.  For safeguarding reasons, Online Learning will only take place through the Google suite, including Google Classroom, which should be accessed on Chromebooks or other devices via the Chrome browser.

Academic provision

Currently Pre-Prep and Nursery have been sent home with some suggestions for practical activities as well as written work to complete. Pre-prep and Nursery teachers can be contacted during school hours via email. After the Easter break, Pre-Prep and Nursery pupils will be sent a set of work for the week along with a suggested daily timetable. The work can be scanned or photographed and  emailed back during the week. The teacher can then look at and provide any necessary support and feedback to promote progress. Hearing Pre-Prep children read every day remains the most important activity to be completed at home. Online reading material is included in the website and apps section.

Teachers have set up Google Classrooms for each of their classes in the Prep School commencing after the Easter holidays on the 22nd of April and pupils have been enrolled into these online classes, through which lessons will be delivered. Teachers will plan and provide lessons focused on the relevant curriculum with the usual variety, as far as is practical.

Pastoral Support and Wellbeing

Form Tutors will touch base with their tutees on a weekly basis via a phone call and all staff should be available via Google Classrooms on a daily basis (through school email accounts/Google Hangout).  This is on the basis that the staff themselves are well and able to. Should a teacher or tutor become concerned about a pupil’s engagement in online learning, they will make contact with parents.

This is new to everyone and there will be a period of adjustment alongside the ever changing global situation. We ask you for patience and ask that you contact us regarding any problems and difficulties so that we can assist in the resolution. Please be aware that staff may become ill and therefore you may experience a delay in response but we want to assure you that we are here and we are working as hard as we can to support the children.

In these very challenging times some pupils may require support in addition to that provided by their tutor.  In these circumstances both pupils and parents can contact Mrs Burrows in the Hub: rburrows@kingshottschool.com or Mrs Menne and her team from Learning support amenne@kingshottschool.com

Expectations of pupils and parental support

During term time, pupils will have access to many lessons and activities provided by the staff through Google Classrooms.

We realise that this is a hugely unsettling and difficult time for everyone and whilst the work is being provided on a regular basis, we do not want to add stress to an already difficult and overwhelming time. Parents are asked to use their judgement and encourage children to access the materials as often as they feel appropriate.

The use of outside space and other learning opportunities such as cooking, gardening, board games etc is encouraged during the day.

Pastoral Support

Given the unprecedented events of the last few weeks and the fact that the school has now closed, it feels important to recognise that levels of anxiety generally are perhaps considerably higher than usual and to acknowledge the potential impact of this on our children’s and indeed our own emotional wellbeing.  With this in mind the Hub will be available throughout the closure (including the Easter break) and can be contacted by email rburrows@kingshottschool.com should any of our parents or pupils feel they need support.

If required, Mrs Burrows could then offer a brief phone call to discuss issues further.  Parents are also encouraged to contact us if they have any concerns about their children’s emotional wellbeing.
