Year 3 and 4

Kingshott school 01

The Year Threes and Year Fours are taught in the purpose-built Ashbrook Building which opened in 2008 and the building comprises six large and bright classrooms, cloakroom and toilet facilities, a dedicated office and resources room and a super open area, with its own computer bank. This space is used as an additional teaching space, library and practical area.  Also in the Ashbrook Building is a second, purpose-built science lab.  Our building provides a bright, safe and secure learning and teaching space for all its pupils and, whilst having its own identity, it is a fully integrated part of the whole school. Our objective in the Year Three and Four phase is to provide a caring, happy and stimulating environment for the children as they make the transition from the Pre-Prep to the upper part of the school.

Kingshott Year 4 (3)For most of the academic curriculum, children in Years Three and Four are taught by their class teacher.  Art, Drama, Design Technology and Music are taught by specialist teachers, as are French, PE and Games.

The Ashbrook Building has a vibrant, happy and busy atmosphere. Our focus is on attaining the highest possible standards for all our children in the academic subjects, but we are also aware of the importance of ensuring that the wider curriculum is made available and accessible to all. A strong emphasis is placed on pastoral care and education to create good citizens, not only of Kingshott, but also of the wider community.  We focus on five R’s; Readiness, Responsibility, being Reflective, Resourceful and showing Resilience.  As well as this, we celebrate kindness and good manners on a weekly basis during our Year Three and Four assembly.

Kingshott Year 3We aim to enhance and enliven the curriculum through the provision of value added activities. For example, we have themed days in school including the Ancient Greeks and an Indian cultural day.  We organise trips to reinforce classroom learning in subjects such as History, Science, Geography, Art and Religious Studies. Recent trips have included Celtic Harmony, a Sikh Gurdwara, Bhaktivedanti Hindu Temple and Dell Farm.  In Year Three all children spend a night at the National Space Centre in Leicester. In Year Four all the children go on a two-night trip to Grafham Water. Both of these trips are hugely popular and give the children the opportunity to challenge themselves physically and learn to live and get along with each other in very different circumstances and surroundings, as well as exposing them to a night or two away from home, often for the first time.

Kingshott Year 4Many children learn to play musical instruments taught by peripatetic teachers and all are given the opportunity to perform. We offer a range of lunch-time and after-school activities such as touch typing, Mandarin, Spanish, tennis, yoga, art club, Touchline football, dodgeball, Box of Frogs, dance, table tennis, girls’ football and more. At the end of the day we provide care from 4.10pm-6.00pm.  During this time children will have a snack and be supervised doing their prep.  At 5.00pm we have a more relaxed atmosphere, where the children can play games, use the computer, colour or read.  Children can be collected at 5.00pm, 5.30pm or up to 6.00pm, this collection time can change on a daily basis.

Nothing is perfect, but Kingshott is pretty close!"
