Pre-Prep
Our Pre-Prep children are based in the spectacular award-winning Rowan building. There are nine classes in this department, with three each in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
The children access a full curriculum, taught by qualified and experienced teachers and supported by trained nursery nurses and classroom assistants.
The children study Literacy and Numeracy in their classrooms, together with Science, History and Geography topics. Computer skills are taught from Reception upwards, in the classrooms or in one of the computer suites in the main school. Music and PE are taught by specialist teachers throughout the Pre-Prep, and French is introduced in Year 1, together with Recorder lessons.
Mornings in the Pre-Prep are quiet, and core learning takes place at this time. By contrast the afternoons are creative and relaxed.
The staff is supported by a team of volunteer parents and grandparents, known as the Spectrum Group. They help with sewing, number and word games, painting, and generally enable the children to access a wider curriculum.
In addition to all this, Ballet is available to all year groups, and Tap, Gym and Theatre School are available after school from Year 1 upwards, as is an after school activity session with a member of the PE staff.
The school day is broken up by playtime. When possible, this takes place on the school field, and also on playgrounds, the climbing frame or in the play house. We encourage the children to use up their energy!
There is an After School Care facility available for working parents. A snack tea is provided and the children can play outside (weather permitting), play inside with toys and games, or just relax and watch children’s television, as they might at home. Breakfast Club is available before school for children of parents who need to get to work early.
The Pre-Prep offers a structured and caring environment where children thrive in a warm and happy atmosphere.
