Subjects
The curriculum has been designed to meet the needs of the girls and boys at the school, ensuring that they are suitably challenged while aiming for excellence in all areas. A broad and balanced curriculum allows children the opportunity to access knowledge while learning skills. Team and individual sport, Music, Art, Design and Technology, Drama and extra-curricular clubs and activities complement the more traditional academic subjects. Class sizes are small, averaging fifteen, allowing for much individual tuition.
Typically, from Year 5 children are set in the core subjects of Maths and English. This enables better differentiated teaching where children are placed in groups according to their ability.
Teaching is delivered by qualified and experienced staff who know the children as individuals, and tailor their lessons to address the needs of each child. At Kingshott, we acknowledge that inspirational teaching has to be at the heart of all we do. Using the best mix of traditional and modern teaching methods, we constantly strive to stimulate the children’s intellect and captivate their imagination.
There are twenty-nine full-time and eight part-time teaching staff. There is also a full-time laboratory technician, a full-time Design and Technology technician, a full-time ICT systems manager, a full-time ICT technician, and a part-time Librarian and Art technician. There are twelve peripatetic music teachers.
A strong Learning Support Department works together with staff supporting children with specific learning disabilities or those who require additional help. This is offered individually, in small groups or within the classroom.
