1931
Foundation
Kingshott was founded as a small Boys' boarding school. The site originated as Oakfield House, which was built in 1859 for Joseph Lucas, and over time, outbuildings were converted into learning spaces such as the dining room, library, and art room. The name “Kingshott” is believed to originate from a connection to King Henry VIII’s hunting grounds, though evidence is anecdotal.
1964
Boarding closes at Kingshott
The last boarders leave in 1964, and Kinsghott begins transitioning from boarding to day school provisions. The cricket team can be seen here from 1967.
1965
Documented National Archives Records
The school appears in UK National Archives holdings relating to operations during this period.
1980
New Governance Structure
Kingshott becomes an Educational Charitable Trust overseen by a Board of Governors.
1983
Co-education is introduced to Kingshott
The first girls joined the school, marking the transition to co-education.
2003
Freehold Purchase
The school purchases most of the freehold of the land to bring ownership within the school.
2004
Rowan Building Opens
The Rowan Building (named after Mr Rowan Robinson) opens as part of a multi-phase redevelopment.
2008
Ashbrook building opens
The construction of the new Junior School building (Ashbrook Building) is completed, and it opens to the children in September.
2009
Launch of Kingshott Nursery
Kingshott opens its doors to rising fours, establishing a nursery in the Rowan Building.
2010
Standalone Nursery Opens
A purpose-built, standalone nursery building opens.
2015
Robinson Building Opens
A multimillion-pound Robinson building is unveiled, featuring:
an art room, a music room, a drama studio, a food & technology room, science laboratories, nine modern classrooms, and updated changing rooms.2020
Mr Weston is appointed Head
Mr David Weston becomes Kingshott’s eighth head (as of September 2020).
2023
GCSE Announcement
Kingshott increased the age from 13 to 16 with the introduction of public examinations, GCSE courses offering this two-year pathway.
2024
Kingshott joins the Mill Hill Education Group
Kingshott joins the Mill Hill Education Group, a charitable foundation with shared educational values.
