Glorious Grafham Water
Last week, Year 4 spent the mini-heatwave at glorious Grafham Water. The children had a go at sailing, in spite of their being little wind, and most of them managed to stay on board. However, when it came to stand up paddle boarding, nearly everyone found themselves in the water. Most children mastered balancing on their boards though some found paddling while kneeling much easier. When kayaking and paddle boarding the children played various games and learnt how to go in a relatively straight line and how to turn. Despite the warm weather the water was still very cold. Archery was another activity that most children were trying for the first time, and in the games they played it wasn’t always about hitting the centre of the target. They also learnt how to build a shelter and a fire – though they didn’t need this to keep themselves warm! Indoors, the children had a go at a climbing wall and they challenged themselves to go higher each time they had a go. On the first evening the children took part in The Grafham Challenge, which involved getting wet and muddy and tested their communication skills. Sun cream was liberally and repeatedly applied and a good time was had by all.
