The Nursery

Quality Mark Award logo for EarlyYears

Our Nursery, is part of Kingshott's Pre-Prep Department and has its own purpose built building. Children can join our Nursery following their third birthday and flexible hours are offered.

Our Nursery teacher is supported by the Nursery Co-ordinator and highly qualified EYFS practitioners. In following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum; we promote teaching and learning to ensure our children are ‘school ready.’ Our children experience a wide range of activities and skills that provide the right foundation for future development as they progress through school and life.

All staff respond to each child’s individual emerging needs and interests; to support their growth and development through warm and positive interaction. Our aim is to ensure that children enjoy their nursery experience in the care of skilful and caring staff and make a confident and smooth transition to full time education in our Reception classes. We share and communicate the child’s learning experiences and developmental milestones when working in partnership with parents.

The Nursery itself is a bright, colourful environment with space for the children to learn in a variety of ways, through carefully planned adult-led and child-initiated activities. P.E, drama and French are delivered by specialist teachers. The Nursery has its own secure outdoor environment which enables children to continue their learning through active investigation and exploration. Children have the advantage of being able to use the extensive school grounds to widen their learning experiences within our safe and nurturing school community. Nursery children are offered some swimming sessions in the school swimming pool during the summer term.

For parents who require wraparound care, Nursery children can attend Breakfast Club before school from 7.30am, or After School Care which is available until 6.00pm in the Pre-Prep.

Kingshott Nursery is one of only two schools in Hertfordshire to gain the National Quality Mark for Early Years. To achieve the Quality Mark, Kingshott had to undergo an assessment, carried out by an external accredited assessor, against the 10 ‘Elements’ of the Quality Mark for Early Years framework. These include reviewing young children’s learning needs and planning their next steps, providing safe, stimulating resources and equipment – both indoors and outdoors - and having skilled early years’practitioners. Positive partnerships with families and effective monitoring and evaluation are also required.
