Years 1 and 2

The Pre-Prep offers a structured and caring environment where children thrive in a warm and happy atmosphere whilst providing each child with the opportunities to develop independence, self-confidence, self-discipline and self-esteem.

The children are taught by qualified and experienced teachers and supported by highly trained teaching assistants. They study literacy and numeracy, together with art, science, history and geography. Specialist teachers continue to add their expertise to subject delivery in Years 1 and 2 and teach each class for music, PE, drama and French. We use technology with confidence, using a range of hardware and software to achieve specific planned outcomes. Children are able to learn the recorder or other musical instruments from Year 1.

The Pre-Prep Curriculum is enhanced with trips and workshops linked to topics being studied. As well as the annual Harvest, Nativity and school productions, Parents are also invited to a class assembly each term.

Parental involvement is encouraged and the Pre-Prep is supported by a team of volunteer parents and grandparents. They help with sewing, computers, library and gardening, thus enabling the children to access a wider curriculum.

Parents are kept informed of their child’s progress through parent consultations and termly target sheets and reports.  Our end of Key Stage 1 results are excellent and beyond national averages.

Pre-Prep children have the opportunity to join in with a variety of extra-curricular activities. These may include ballet, tap, multi-sports, tennis, football, Spanish, storytelling and musical theatre.
