Reception
The Reception classes are located in our award-winning Rowan Building. The children have access to the hall, music room, outdoor classroom, sports hall and our own library.
The Reception classrooms are bright and welcoming, equipped with interactive whiteboards. Reception also benefits from a purpose-built outdoor area to support continuous outdoor provision, as well as a separate playground for play and exploration.
Each class is taught by an experienced teacher and supported by highly qualified EYFS practitioners. Reception children can also attend Breakfast Club, After School Care, and the school holiday provision.
Reception children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, which recognises that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. Small class sizes ensure that every child is treated as an individual, enabling teaching staff to identify the next steps in each child’s learning journey.
The Reception classes follow a more structured timetable than nursery, while maintaining an emphasis on learning through play and practical activities. Mathematics, Literacy and Phonics are taught in the mornings, with other curriculum areas in the afternoons. Reception follow the Little Wandle phonics programme and have access to a variety of reading schemes.
Reception children also have PE and Performing Arts with specialist teachers, as well as a weekly swimming lesson with qualified instructors. They enjoy French lessons with ‘Camembear’, a popular French teaching resource. Optional ballet lessons are offered one afternoon per week.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage Profile results at the end of Reception are consistently above the national average.
