Kingshott students receive Silver CREST awards

P1120743Kingshott students have successfully completed a nationally recognised accreditation for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and achieved Silver CREST awards. The children completed the project during the summer holidays, at a STEM "Camp" which was held remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions.

For this project, students had to spend 30 hours working on an exciting project all about the science of making lip balm. The camp was split into many different sessions to cover the various disciplines of STEM. Students carried out research to understand the chemistry of making lip balm and the properties of each ingredient for its application. They planned and carried out experiments to come up with the best formula for their lip balm. For the technology session, students used an online program to create and design their own logo. Finally, they had to write a comprehensive project report which was sent to CREST for formal assessment.

Commenting on students' achievement, Dr. Sialvi said: "I am delighted with the students’ Silver CREST Award, which recognises their hard work and success in such a short period. This is an outstanding achievement as the Silver CREST award is generally awarded to GCSE students. The CREST award initiative is fantastic, and it is a great privilege to be able to train and inspire the next generation of scientist and engineers. A huge well done to all the students involved!”
