The Kingshott Poetry By Heart competition was truly incredible. The energy, passion and gusto that pupils brought to their performances were breathtaking. Their careful intonation, the cascading flow of sound, the use of crescendo and diminuendo, and the clear pronunciation of consonants and vocabulary were all executed so eloquently by every poetry reader. You should all feel immensely proud.
Poetry By Heart is a national poetry-speaking competition for schools and colleges in England. It is also a rich online resource for teaching and learning about poetry both by heart and out loud offering young people the chance to explore a wide range of poems and discover the ones that speak to them.
Taking part in Poetry By Heart helps pupils build confidence with poetry in an enjoyable, accessible and engaging way, encouraging a lifelong appreciation of spoken word.
