Eco Promise: Developing Our School Tree Trail
To mark our eco promise and to strengthen our commitment to caring for the trees in our environment, we are delighted to share an update on our new Tree Learning Trail. As part of this project, we are planting new, indigenous trees that are suited to our local habitat, while also celebrating the established trees already growing on our school grounds.
Each tree on the trail will be signposted with its species name. To make this even more meaningful, we have taken small trunk cross-sections from each type of tree. Using our laser cutter, we are engraving these wooden discs with the name of the tree. This allows pupils to look closely at the internal growth rings, giving them the opportunity to examine the unique patterns found inside the trunk and to learn more about how trees grow over time.
These wooden signs will be placed beside their corresponding trees, creating clear identification markers and helping us build a dedicated trail across the school grounds. The Tree Learning Trail will offer pupils a hands-on way to explore nature, develop curiosity, and deepen their understanding of the trees that play such an important role in our environment.
Tree Planting
Collecting, growing and nurturing saplings in the Tree Nursery throughout the year, before planting them out in the school grounds during the winter, has been a long-standing Kingshott tradition. This winter, we once again have a diverse collection of native British saplings that are ready to go and just need a little help to complete their journey from the school Tree Nursery to the big wide world!
It’s a wonderful opportunity for the children to improve the natural environment and take part in a spot of ‘carbon offsetting’—saving the planet one tree at a time!
We will be holding our Kingshott Tree Planting afternoon on Saturday 14 March 2026, from
1:00pm to 3:00pm.
