The Year 5 residential trip to the Peak District

As the Year 5 children returned after half term, excitement filled the air as they set off for their residential trip to the Peak District.

Their journey began with a visit to Poole’s Cavern, where they explored the cave’s history and learned about the outlaws who once hid there. A climb to the top of Solomon’s Temple rewarded them with impressive panoramic views before heading to the Nightingale Centre, their home for the week, where a warm dinner and cosy dormitories awaited.

Day two began at Cromford Mill, where the children discovered the work of Richard Arkwright and his impact on industrial life. They enjoyed trying on period costumes and experiencing tasks carried out by child workers. Later, at Parsley Hay, they cycled along the scenic Tissington Trail. Although heavy rain cut the ride short, spirits remained high. The evening was spent enjoying a film or playing board games.

On Thursday, the group visited Acclimbatize for a day of adventure, including abseiling, climbing, zip-lining and scrambling. The children showed great resilience as they pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones. Despite more rain, they soon warmed up back at the centre. That evening, a lively talent show showcased dancing, comedy, magic and quizzes.

Friday saw the return journey to Kingshott, with a final stop at Elvaston Nature Reserve for a walk and lunch before heading home.

The residential was a fantastic experience, full of adventure, learning, teamwork and lasting memories.
