UNICEF Ambassadors take lessons in Reception
The Senior UNICEF ambassadors had great fun joining Reception last Friday to tell them about their rights. They led a lesson, which included singing and a story, preparing the children for an art activity on the ABCDE of rights that they’ll be completing together after half term.
The ABCDE of rights represents the five key principles of children's rights under the UN Conventions on Rights of the Child. These principles ensure children understand they are born with rights that are not rewards and cannot be removed
- A – Universal/All Children: Rights apply to every child everywhere in the world, regardless of background.
- B – Inherent/Birthright: Children are born with these rights; they are not acquired later.
- C – Inalienable/Cannot be taken away: Rights cannot be given away, sold, or removed by others.
- D – Unconditional/Do not have to be earned: Rights are not rewards for good behaviour or linked to responsibilities.
- E – Indivisible/Equally important: All rights are equally important and interconnected; one cannot be ignored for another.
