On 26th January, the senior school were treated to a special ‘showcase’ assembly where some of our finest orators delivered public speeches with excellent confidence and clarity.
Not only was this a feat of great bravery, but a stunning example of how to engage an audience with powerful words and memorable delivery.
Well done to the following students!
- Torie in Year 8 examined the advantages and disadvantages of homework.
- Joel in Year 9 urged us to exercise the right to vote.
- Archie in Year 9 explored the benefits and drawbacks of AI.
- Will in Year 9 asked: what makes a good leader?
- Sasha in Year 8 argued the need for gender equality in sport.
The breadth and depth of research were exceptional across all five participants. Each speaker delivered a mature, well-balanced argument, engaging the audience and taking us on a journey of fluid thought. They articulated their ideas through evidence-based research while promoting curiosity and thoughtful experimentation.
The speakers also chose creative and engaging approaches, using visuals and props to help elevate their speeches and clearly convey their ideas.
This was an inspiration to us all. It offered a learning opportunity to all years in regards to public speaking, and relevant to the GCSE English course.
