GCSE Geography Rivers Fieldwork Day
Our current and next year’s GCSE Geography students took part in a river’s fieldwork day, where they investigated how the river Chess changes along its course. This hands-on experience allowed them to prepare for the fieldwork component of their final exam.
Throughout the day, they carried out a range of data collection methods at different points along the river to identify patterns and changes downstream. They measured the width of the river, recorded depth at regular intervals across the channel, and calculated velocity by timing how long it took for a float to travel a set distance. In addition, they analysed sediment size by collecting and measuring rocks from the riverbed.
